The Feast of the Translation of the Relics of the Saint, commonly known as the "Feast of the Tongue", which will be held on Sunday 20 February in the Basilica, is the most important St. Anthony anniversary after the solemnity of June 13.
We celebrate the discovery of Anthony's incorrupt tongue 759 years ago. On 8 April 1263, Saint Bonaventura of Bagnoregio, Minister General of the Franciscan friars, during the Recognition of the Saint’s mortal remains, found Anthony’s tongue intact; the Saint had been dead for over thirty years.
The venerated relic of the tongue is still visible and incorrupt after eight centuries, and is kept in a reliquary in the Treasury Chapel.
As in the past years, at the end of the Solemn Mass at 6.00 pm (CET) there will be an “Act of Entrustment” to St. Anthony and a blessing through this Relic.
