The second part describes how Father Placido secretly organized a clandestine network of safe havens, food supplies and escape routes, devoting himself entirely to the protection of so many lives in danger, using St. Anthony’s Basilica in Padua as a focal point, particularly from his confessional in front of the Chapel of Relics (which has now become his memorial). There Father Placido met his most trusted collaborators until his abduction and imprisonment in a notorious Gestapo bunker in Trieste.
