28th of July, 4th World day for Grandparents and the Elderly

Pope Francis has granted a Plenary Indulgence

Also on the occasion for the 4th World day for Grandparents and the Elderly, which will be celebrated on the 28th of July and will carry the theme “Do not cast me off in my old age” (Cf. Psalm 71,9), Pope Francis has granted a Plenary Indulgence to the faithful who participate in masses dedicated to this anniversary, or those that visit the alone elderly.

The Indulgence, a way for the Church to be close to the elderly.

This was made known by the Apostolic Penitentiary in a decree published in the Bulletin of the Press Office, which states that the Indulgence is granted, “under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer according to the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff) to grandparents, the elderly and all the faithful who, motivated by a true spirit of penance and charity, will participate in the various functions that will be held throughout the world”.

Furthermore, to emphasise that the visit is an occasion for reconciliation and forgiveness, it will also be possible to obtain the indulgence by visiting the elderly who are living alone in their neighbourhood, or those living in residential facilities.

Poster and pastoral kit to prepare for the Day of the 28th of July

On this occasion, the Dicastery for Laity, family and Life is making available a poster for printing, which is in addition to the pastoral kit already published a few weeks ago, offering an additional resource to help parishes and the dioceses prepare for this important celebration.
