As a fervent disciple of St Francis, Anthony deeply loved the poor, the marginalized, the dispossessed. He chose to live in close contact with the poorest of the poor and to share the sufferings of all those who were at the mercy of the powerful and the abuse of the upper classes. He was truly one of the greatest human rights defenders. Poverty is not one's destiny, it is a condition, and if we want we can change it.
Let’s pray: "God of Justice, open our eyes to see you in the faces of the poor. Open our ears to hear you in the cries of the exploited. Remind us that what we do to the least, we do to you. Amen."
